Is it just me or does this seem like a really good deal besides the fact that you have to buy extra stuff to build R2 or stick with R1 with CNC parts?

Anybody know if R1 is a pain to maintain?

CaptainSisko

Haha, thanks for the insight. I’m not sure if I have the patience either to attempt the Voron build especially with nice pre-built printers like Bambu Lab’s offerings but I definitely keep looking at your Voron postings, haha. Thanks again for the deals and tips!

The R2 is mostly just some Quality of Life (QoL) revisions that includes a few mods that have gotten so much recommendation that it’s now included in the base spec. Easiest to see is the use of a single MGN12 linear rail for the X axis, in place of dual MGN9 rails. Another is a different style of rubber feet, more what one would see on a guitar amp instead of an air compressor. The Omron inductive probe is now considered the standard instead of the less reliable PL-08N. Precise shim spacers are used instead of generic washers. There are also some changes to the printed parts. The R1 is still a very capable machine and you can always upgrade to R2 later if desired. Until recently I was still using my V2.1.2, at least till I picked up an r2 for a great deal (some of those hoops that PF mentions) during the 11.11 sale.

I have mixed opinions on the CNC parts, as they are just the same geometries as the printed parts and are not optimized for the advantages that CNC offers. But I would still give them a try if they were included with the purchase price.

Strangely enough, when I first checked out the deal I had a lower price than even what PF shows. But I decided to wait on it and it has since gone up and the coupon has disappeared from the listing (though I still have it clipped). There is another listing on the storefront that claims the same ‘gifts’ as this one. Shows me a price of $784 (picture says $799) before spend and save and I believe the event coupon TS20US works on it too (though no store coupons).

Thanks for chimming in! I’ve read the same thing about the CNC parts but it seems really nice you don’t have to worry about printing them or PIF to start out. I saw the price went back up to but being a Voron newb I feel like I’d want to jump on an R2 deal with those QoL improvements you spoke of. Decisions……
